School Day
Morning session 8.55am – 12.00 noon
Afternoon session 1.00pm – 3.25pm
Total school hours per week - 32.5 hours
The school day starts at 8.55am and you are requested to ensure that children are brought to school on time to minimise disruption in the classroom. Doors are open at 8.40am and we encourage all children to be in their classrooms at this time. The school registers are taken at 8.55am and arrival after this time will be marked as late. The playgrounds are not supervised before school and we ask that children do not arrive before 8.40am.
All children will be asked to bring PE kits in to school on a Monday in a bag with their footwear in a separate waterproof bag. These will stay in school throughout the week. They should be taken home on a Friday, washed and returned to school on the following Monday. This will allow greater flexibility on when outdoor PE occurs ( due to weather) and also allows children to take part in lunchtime sporting activities on the field, if they so wished, on different days of the week.
If your child is bringing a packed lunch to school please ensure it does not contain fizzy drinks or sweets.
We have children at the school who have severe, life threatening allergies to certain foods so we ask that no nuts are brought to school including items that include nuts such as granola bars.
Parents are not permitted to drive up the school drive unless the parent / carer or child is a blue badge holder. Children should not walk on the grass bank that borders the drive. All children crossing Oakley Lane, including cyclists, should use the crossing patrol which operates 8.25am – 9.10am and 3.10pm – 3.50pm daily. (No cover operates at lunch time.) There may be occasions when the crossing patrol is not available to supervise children. We will always endeavour to give parents and children prior warning but this is not always possible. On these occasions it becomes the responsibility of the parents to ensure safe crossing of their child. The School and Hampshire County Council have no legal requirement to provide a crossing patrol and no staff are legally allowed to undertake this task.
Parents are asked to park considerately, well away from the sight lines of the school crossing patrol. Parking is available in the marked spaces outside the school gates. The police request that drivers reverse cars into parking spaces. It is an offence to park on the bus stop or to obstruct the crossing patrol. Please do not wait in the lay-by if all the places are full. Drivers are requested to use the lay-by one way system when leaving the car park to avoid congestion.
Inconsiderate parking creates dangers for our children and annoys local residents.
We ask all parents to only use cars if absolutely necessary.
Going home arrangements – It is obviously important that children are aware of their going home arrangements before they are left at school in the morning. Where there is an unavoidable change to these arrangements, please endeavour to phone the school before the end of the lunchtime break (12.50pm) so that we can ensure the message is passed on. (Children are often not class based so we cannot always guarantee that the child will receive the message if it is taken after this time.)
Children who believe they are to be collected from school and are not met should return to the school office where arrangements will be made for them to return home safely.
